Repsly Announces New Shelf Detection Solution, Powered by Image Recognition, to Help Consumer Goods Brands Overcome Labor Shortages in the Field

The retail execution software leader is helping field teams leverage image recognition technology to execute faster, cheaper, and more accurate shelf audits at scale.

BOSTON — October 8, 2021: Repsly, Inc., a leading retail execution software for the consumer goods industry, today announced the release of a new Shelf Detection solution, powered by partner ParallelDots’ image recognition technology, to help field teams affected by recent labor shortages.

Retail execution field teams have seen considerable staffing challenges since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, and have therefore struggled to give their retail customers the typical level of in-person sales and merchandising support. With Repsly’s Shelf Detection solution, CPG field teams will be able to execute shelf audit programs with a much smaller labor footprint, allowing them to gather shelf-level insights on product performance at significantly lower costs and on much tighter timelines.

Repsly’s Shelf Detection solution works by leveraging image recognition technology to analyze the photos a sales rep takes during store visits and detecting which SKUs are present on the shelf, then delivering insights such as a brand’s market share vs competitors or potential out of stocks. With Shelf Detection, field teams can spend less time counting facings during manual shelf audits and instead identify them with up to 98% accuracy just by taking a photo.

For consumer goods brands, Repsly’s Shelf Detection solution reduces the cost and labor required to execute shelf audit programs at scale, so they can continue to deliver best-in-class service to their retail customers despite the high turnover and hiring challenges that have come with the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Manual shelf audits used to take sales reps 15 minutes or more to count and report every SKU facing,” says Peter Billante, Repsly’s Chief Product Officer. “But using image recognition, it takes just a few seconds to snap the photo of the shelf to audit.  With Repsly’s Shelf Detection solution, the same field force can audit significantly more stores in the same amount of time — and automatically get trends for KPIs like on-shelf availability and share of shelf versus competitors.“
